DescriptionSummary:Perform Ultrasounds under the constant direction of a Registered Ultrasound Technologist. With supervision, operates the ultrasound unit to provide accurate images for diagnosing disease states. Assist in other areas of the ultrasound department when available in a friendly and helpful manner. Maintains steady flow to facilitate efficient workflow. Assist ultrasound technologists during portable exams and ultrasound procedures. Perform clerical duties, including answering the phone and entering information into the computer. Transport patients to and from the imaging suite. Continuous light housekeeping duties, stock supplies, and linen.Responsibilities:
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of human anatomy and function, positioning, and principles of ultrasound imaging for approved procedures.
- Follows universal precautions and standard infection control procedures with each patient, assuring that all supplies and linen exposed to bodily fluids are correctly disposed of immediately after use. Ensures the operation and sterility of the equipment and supplies used during procedures: Cleans equipment after each patient, following infection control standards; ensures that the room is cleaned after each patient.
- Accuracy of Patient Identification: Consistently checks patient’s ID bracelet andpatient identifiers to ensure proper patient identification before the exam.
- Assists registered tech in organizing, coordinating, and performing drains or biopsies with Radiologists or the referring physician.
- Assists in charging all supplies and record in the logbook.
- Assist Registered ultrasound technologists with radiologist, Cardiologist, and Vascular surgeon exams, including histories and preliminary reports.
- Follows department guidelines while transporting patients. The patient is protected from possible injury using side rails and safety straps; the patient’s privacy is protected by fully covering the patient; the patient’s dignity and comfort are always considered. Properly transfers patients to and from the department without causing unnecessary workflow delays or waiting time for patients.
- Follows department pre-procedure policy: Consistently introduces self to the patient andexplains the procedure and any wait time. Treats patients with dignity, respect, and
- compassion. Documents required history checks patient consent, prepares room, supplies, and equipment before starting the exam.
- Assists Registered ultrasound technologist in preparing images for reading: Evaluate images and send them to PACS within 30 minutes of exam completion, assuring images have crossed over to PACS.
- Maintains steady workflow: Assures smooth function and sound operation of thedepartment, thereby providing timely patient care and achieving maximum productivity.
- Keeps accurate records of all exams: Consistently enters information accurately inEPIC and PACS as soon as the exams are completed (record procedures). Patient Assessment: Assesses patient condition pre-, post, and during procedures.
- Completes duties by the end of the shift: Before the end of the shift, make sure all, images are ready for reading, the room is cleaned and restocked, and all documentation is completed.
- Assists technologists in the department in moving patients, holding patients, and preparing patients for exams, including portable exams.
- Communication: Reviews emails. Identifies problems and communicates with the supervisor.
- Adheres to CMS, TJC, ACR, and TDSHS regulations. Reports any violation to the department supervisor.
- Demonstrates responsibility in using hospital property; follows manufacturer instructions; immediately reports problems and malfunctions; cleans equipment after use; uses supplies conservatively to reduce waste; does not use hospital property for personal use.
- Follows hospital policies and procedures regarding attendance and tardiness, attire and appearance, safety precautions, infection control and safety programs, and hospital policies and departmental rules.
- Follows the CHRISTUS Health Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Associate timely completes all required educational assignments.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in an accredited school of medical sonography.
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
- American Heart Associate BLS required.
- Student of an accredited program for medical sonography.
