Job Title: Senior Program AccountantFunction: Miriam School and Learning CenterClassification: Exempt, Full-timeReports to: Director of Finance and AdministrationJOB DESCRIPTIONSummary/ObjectiveThe Senior Program Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and contributes to the overall financial performance of Miriam School and Learning Center by following policies and procedures, providing accurate and timely reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance. The Senior Program Accountant also ensures best practices by assisting in the development, implementation and completion of accounting policies and procedures, including but not limited to, general ledger accountability, and financial reporting and analysis. This position requires a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP),experience in school finance, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Essential Functions-Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, reviewing and entering transactions and prepares accounts, ledgers, schedules and reporting systems (including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, investments, contracts, investments, tuition, donations and debt).-Prepare various financial data and analyze to identify trends and potential issues, determine the accuracy and resolve discrepancies.-Research, analyze and apply guidance to ensure compliance with accounting, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.-Manage the entire student billing process, inquiries, and software systems, from student registration to payment collection by applying discretion aligned with policies in a kind and compassionate manner.-Responsible for administration of the tuition assistance process including parent inquiries, ensuring completeness of application, preparation for and participating in TA Committee meetings with sound, equitable recommendations.-Administers the procurement process assuring accurate and timely processing, complete documentation and approvals, creation of vendor accounts for employees, cultivating vendor management, resolve payment discrepancies, and 1099 reporting.-Develop and implement comprehensive project plans, monitor progress, track and report financial data, provide support to ensure successful project execution.-Correspond with Program Directors to ensure proper accounting across all departments.-Work with the Director of Finance and Administration to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit and prepare documentation as needed for periodic audits by external auditors, tax filings, and annual surveys.-Manage and forecast cash flow as necessary.-Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.-Produce annual budgets based upon input from Directors and program needs in line with Miriam’s core values.-Attend Finance Committee meetings and other meetings as necessary to perform accounting functions.-Cross train in all financial matters to provide support to other team members as needed.-Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential, maintaining appropriate internal controls, and ensuring accuracy in work performed.-Required Education/License/Certification(s) and Experience-5 years of accounting experience and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, oneyear of supervisory experience preferred.-Financial and accounting expertise, including knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.-Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel and preferred knowledge of Blackbaud and FACTS systems.-General knowledge of non-profit accounting principles in a school environment preferred.-Must be extremely reliable and trustworthy, and maintain confidentiality.-Possesses strong, detailed analytical skills, and has the ability to apply theses skills to solve problems, resolve issues and make sound decisions.-Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing at all management levels.-Strong collaborative skills to work well with staff, parents, students, and volunteers.-Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline environment.-Self-starter, quick study and ability to multi-task on a regular basis with minimal dailydirection.
