Program Accountant

Position DescriptionAre you a seasoned accounting professional with a passion for supporting critical programs and driving financial success? Serco-NA is seeking a Program Accountant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will leverage your advanced accounting expertise to manage program finances, influence organizational practices, and mentor junior accounting professionals. Your contributions will be pivotal in ensuring the financial integrity and success of our operations.This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret level Security Clearance. This position is also contingent upon an award of contract.In this role, you will:

  • Oversee and manage the financial aspects of large programs or projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Perform complex accounting tasks, including revenue recognition, cost analysis, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Work independently with limited supervision, managing your workload effectively to meet deadlines and organizational objectives.
  • May manage accounting-related projects or processes, coordinating cross-functional efforts to improve financial operations.
  • Coach and review the work of lower-level accounting professionals, providing guidance to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Tackle difficult and sometimes complex financial problems, developing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Influence others regarding accounting policies, practices, and procedures, contributing to the development and implementation of best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, FAR, DFARS, and other regulatory requirements relevant to government contracting.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities within programs.
  • Prepare for and support internal and external audits, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to regulatory standards.

QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, preferably in program or project accounting within a government contracting environment is required.
  • An active DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practices, typically obtained through education and substantial experience.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of addressing complex financial issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at various levels.
  • Practical understanding of project management principles and how they apply to accounting processes.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and tools, such as Deltek Costpoint, SAP, or Oracle, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • 10% travel required.

Additional Desired Experience and Skills:

  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certifications are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, and other government contracting regulations.
  • Experience preparing for and supporting financial audits.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements in financial operations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and functions to achieve organizational goals.
