Clinical Nurse Educator- Emergency Room

Job Description:Nemours is seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator for our Emergency Department. Position is full-time, 40 hours per week, salaried.The Clinical Nurse Educator holds the primary responsibility for implementing strategies that promote optimal learning and the effective translation of knowledge and skills to the learners practice environment thus enhancing a learner’s competence. The Clinical Nurse Educator facilitates nursing professional development by engaging nurses in lifelong learning activities to enhance their professional competence and role performance. The clinical educator operates in both the practice and learning environment to meet the demands of the practice setting. At the core of the professional development process is evidence-base practice, which integrates the highest level of evidence, educational and clinical expertise, and learner values to facilitate decision-making. Critical thinking to apply scientific knowledge and theory relate to both educational methods and practice. The programs and services include orientation, competency program, in-service and continuing education, career development & role transition, and research & scholarship. The overall outcome is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes to support protection of the public and provision of safe, quality care. This is reflected in the adoption of new behaviors and/or process as part of ongoing change; acquisition of knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes upon which to base practice; and professional role competence and growth.Responsibilities:The Clinical Nursing Educator professional practice includes:

  • Collect data from educational activities and other sources to determine educational needs.
  • Identify issues and trends, obtain and analyze data for individual, organizations, communities
  • Establish a nursing education curriculum, programs, and/or plan that outline strategies and alternatives to achieve the established educational and organizational outcomes.
  • Implement the educational plan utilizing teaching and learning principles.
  • Influence the planning process, enhance the abilities of others, and affect change.
  • Evaluate progress to attainments of outcomes.
  • Support an infrastructure of nursing excellence and enculturation of the Magnet Model components.
  • Participate in activities to support attainment of Magnet Recognition.
  • Maintain clinical competencies in specialty areas and participate in direct patient care

The Clinical Nursing Educator professional development includes:

  • Systematically enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing professional development practice.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competency in nursing and professional development practice.
  • Evaluate his/her own practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, and relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Model professional behaviors including involvement/collaboration in professional organizations, academic institutions, engagement in lifelong learning activities, dissemination of information through publications and presentations, and involvement in nursing research and evidence-based activities.
  • Establish collegial partnerships contributing to the professional development of peers, students, colleagues, and others.
  • Collaborate with inter-professional team members, leaders, stakeholders, and others to facilitate nursing practice and positive outcomes for consumers.
  • Integrate ethics and evidence into teaching and learning & practice environments.
  • Advocate for the protection and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing and other professions, institutions, and organizations.
  • Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost related to professional development activities and expected outcomes.
  • Utilize skilled oral, written, and electronic communication to communicate effectively and to foster collegial relationships both intra- and interdepartmentally

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – BSN required [from an accredited school of nursing]
  • Master’s Degree – MSN preferred; if master’s degree is not in nursing, applicants, must have a BSN
  • Active Florida or multi-state RN license, required
  • National Certification in Professional Development and/or Nursing Clinical Specialty, preferred
