We craft and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.How does Software Development play into the big picture?The Software Development Department designs and develops software for onboard safety and signaling equipment. The developed software interacts with discrete I/O signals, speed sensors, communication links, and display devices. Our group works with Systems and Electrical Engineers to design the products that are used to help keep the trains operating in a safe manner, including overspeed protection. Additionally, we interact with the Verification and Validation teams to ensure the safe operation and proper behavior of the equipment the software was designed for.What your day-to-day will look like:Learn about our standard processes.Work with Project Managers, Electrical Engineers, System Engineers, Requirements Managers, Software Verification Engineers, System Validation Engineers, and other Software Engineers to learn about the software development process (including documentation, software implementation, and testing efforts) through shadowing and the assignment of relevant tasks to build up your practical knowledge.Interface with different areas of the Onboard Engineering department and learn about how collaboration drives success.Gain insight into the Onboard Engineering essentials related to activities such as: software design (including requirements definition), software project documentation, software development, and software verification activities.Critical Capabilities:

Basic Qualifications:
- Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or similar from an accredited college or university
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required
- Must reside or go to school near internship location (Pittsburgh, PA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Previous internship experience or relevant school projects
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written
- Ability to work on a team
- Interest in learning about the rail industry – project management, customer service operations, manufacturing, etc.
Who Should Apply?
- Education / Majors: Current sophomore or junior undergraduates pursuing a BA/BS from an accredited college or university and majoring in Relevant to role with strong technical or analytical aptitude
- Availability: 40 hours per week from June to August
- Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
- Prior internship or co-op experience (preferred) with a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Strong analytical, writing, presentation, and critical-thinking skills
- Industry knowledge and/or interest
You’ll benefit from:The hourly pay range for this position is $22 – $26 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
